What's the deal with that logo?
It started this way, with just the words ur and spime. I considered putting together the letters. A letter "u" and "s" in helvetica of course. I put them together with the top of the s altered a little to align with the right top of the u.
Thinking about that made me want to join it. Or if NOT join the ends, figure out a way to communicate that the reunification matters, that the ends touch and sparks fly. I thought about putting a starburst there.
Then I thought hey an asterisk would be clever because what I'm talking about are not actually spimes in the fully realized sense, they only have a couple of the features of a spime and then I thought hey that asterisk looks good. I turned the US pill on its side and that provided the angle of the asterisk.
I put the asterisk next to urSPIMES, like an asterisk, a note that these are only provisionally spimes, like the ol 61*.

Anyway, then I thought the asterisk at that angle was cool. It looks a little like a person, arms and legs sticking out. And I noted the five points. Most of the time these subjects created here will have five of the six aspects of spimes.

They will likely be conceived and designed within a network, and/or given a unique identity, and/or physically fabricated directly from virtual plans, and/or can be tracked, with geolocation technology, location aware systems, and/or can be searched out, and can be bought and sold that way, and/or designed for disassembly.

Very likely they're not going to be rapidly produced by computer fabricators, for example. In fact many will be handmade from junk materials.

Or some of them may be designed for disassembly, but not completely, or may have only attention paid to the components in a sense of what will be done about their disposition. Attention paid to all materials that go into and package one, for those occasions when the artwork in question is not completely designed for disassembly.

They will have holes in their status as spimes, something missing, a gap. Thus the hole. But with the addition of YOU, your participation, your assistance in telling their story, they can become spimes. Or UrSpimes, anyway.

So I stuck a U into the asterisk and you have it.
